Repair of Cracks in Stucco
Expert Repairs of Stucco Cracks
Stucco is a long-lasting, low-maintenance wall siding option for many residential and commercial buildings in Edmonton. However, often times, there are bound to be cracks appearing in stucco walls. There are variety of reasons for cracks, from improper stucco installation to weather conditions. If left unchecked, these cracks could easily lead to bigger problems in the future.
Cracks in stucco can occur due to different factors and should be taken seriously. The factors include but not limited to; poor workmanship, structure movement, insufficient mixing of cement and plastering materials, wrong mix proportions, expansion and shrinkage in the walls due to seasonal temperature changes. When the residential or commercial property is in the settling process, it causes stress on the stucco walls as well, causing cracks to appear.
There are two different type of stucco cracks that you need to be aware of. First being the hairline cracks, these cracks are not as serious as deep cracks. However, they open the pathway for water and moisture to get into your home or building. When the water inside the walls freezes due to winter conditions, cracks expand and this cycle repeats itself over the years. Therefore, the relatively harmless hairline cracks which only cause unappealing aesthetics become deep cracks. It’s much better to solve the problem early on.
Deep cracks on the other hand are a serious issue that require immediate attention. The water gets in because of these cracks and can easily lead to water damage, mold growth, wood rot, smell and eventually irreparable damage. The water soften any material that it touches over time, causing not only exterior but interior damage as well.
